Wortharead Wednesday #17

These are the Twitter (#vss and other wise) stories that caught my eye over the past few days. I tend not to feature the very popular Twitter authors or publishing houses on the basis you will have found them if you are interested. My process is that I favourite any that catch my eye during a day’s viewing as well as doing a search via various #hashtags on Wednesday.  To hold my interest, I want for example, an unexpected twist, a quirky idea or scene, a playful use of words or my curiosity nudged into a ‘hmmm.’  A laugh or an aww won’t hurt either. This usually leaves me 20+ stories that I whittle down to five for no other reason that I can. Click on the image or name if you want to visit the story site. Or on the date stamp to go direct to the story.

‘Your life in 140 words?’ Old man Jones struggled with computer talk.

Raising his voice, Ernie said, ‘No, 140 characters. Try it.’

Thinking, old man Jones  said, ‘I can do it in six words. Born, fall in love and died.’

‘But, pardon me, you’re not dead…Mr Jones…Mr Jones?’

Kids, who'd have them?

Hologram

It wasn’t the ghost or the Hal-like computer that annoyed him but the ‘Alcohol Banned’ notice – this was one bad nightmare. He must have left the holoset controls open for the kids to break again. As a punishment, he’d switch them off and play on-line with his real children.

Death's a sad bone; bruised, you'd say

Hollow man

Hospitals in suburbia with neat gardens and coffee morning nurses disgusted him. Liam so wanted the guts and pus of street medicine. Where to heal gave a life some meaning. Here he just re-fitted bodies long after any reason for living had died. Making a funeral, a long rehearsed prayer.

Allotment wars

Len rattled the garden gate. To beat Roy, he needed his prize seeds. Roy, who'd read Machiavelli, heard the rattle, and sprinkled the decoys.
